ROMEO AND JULIET – ‘A Very Modern Tale’

Romeo and Juliet is part of the syllabus for the GCSE English exam.  Mr Seymour who has been studying this with his Year 11 class and specified the section of the play that is required for the exam.

The group decided to take a modern day newsflash type approach for their programme about Romeo and Juliet. The result is a very exciting and experimental piece which mixes up the original text, whilst juxtaposing the fair city of Verona with Urban London and gun crime. Interviews come from actor Danny Sapani, newsflash read by ITN reader Laura Turner, and Romeo’s audio radio blog sent from his exile in Mantua is performed by IAM’S very own Romeo from last year’s production Dwayne Tomlinson. The True group also conducted interviews with some family members and friends of the Montagues and the Capulets who were from Mrr Seymour’s year 11 English class.  The group even commissioned their own news music jingles and beds.
